T-town superstars Mahesh Babu, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Ram Charan and Naga Chaitanya, along with the who’s who of T-town lived it up at the gala sangeet function of Allu Arjun and Sneha Reddy, Allu Arjun’s beautiful bride! The swanky ballroom at a star hotel on March 3 saw a celebrity guest list of over 400 at the do. The surprise of the evening was the musical number from the groom! Allu Arjun accompanied himself on the piano, enthralling his surprised bride and guests. According to a family member, “Bunny has been learning to play piano for the last two months specially for this occasion.” The festivities also included a comic spoof on Allu Arjun and his bride arranged by Ram Charan Tej and Rana, leaving the audience in splits. Partying went on till the wee hours of the 5th morning.

The Allu Arjun-Sneha Reddy pre-marriage bandwagon is chugging along alright! Thursday night saw Telugu cinema royalty grace the sangeet ceremony of the to-be-married couple.
Yes, sangeet is not part of the South Indian pre-wedding functions but what's the fun quotient if there's no naach-gaana? From family members — Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan Tej, to superstar Nagarjuna with wife Amala were part of the occasion. The usually reticent Mahesh Babu too made an appearance with wife Namrata who was dressed in a jewel print kaftan. The evening saw some dhamaal with RaNa, Priya Anand, Sunil and Charan putting up a skit leaving everyone in splits. While RaNa played Bunny, Priya performed Sneha's part, actor Sunil was the bride's father and Charan played himself. Actors Navdeep, Madhu Shalini, Sharwanand, and Archana too were part of the skit. The groom-to-be set the stage on fire with cousin Charan and Dharam Tej as they danced to "Ra Ra Bangaram". Later, the cute couple — Arjun and Sneha — grooved to the song, "Malli Malli Idi Rani Rozu". Sneha looked resplendent in a shimmery lehenga and ombre dupatta.
Overheard: A little birdie tells us that there was a disagreement between two male guests at the function, over a lady. But timely intervention ensured nothing got out of hand. Well, badi badi shaadiyon main chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain.

IRCTC hands over catering service to ECR
PATNA: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation ( IRCTC) has finally handed over catering services to the East Central Railway ( ECR ) of passenger trains originating from all major stations under five divisions of the zone. It follows sudden change in the catering policy of the railway ministry. The IRCTC will now look after only e-ticketing and tourism in the railways.
According to Patna-based IRCTC regional manager A K Jha, the IRCTC had been providing catering services in about 22 pairs of passenger trains under the ECR. While the IRCTC is likely to hand over charge of catering services of the prestigious Patna-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Garib Rath and Farakka Express in a week, it has already handed over catering charge of the rest of the passenger trains to the ECR s commercial department , he said.

Railway budget has become an unwelcoming event for Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). While the last year’s budget had come at the expense of losing its catering business, this time it assured a significant cut in its ticketing business.
Railway minister Mamata Banerjee had announced a new portal for e-ticketing to be launched by Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). The new website may take away 25 per cent of IRCTC business, whose 30-40 per cent business comes from tickets.
“Financial year 2011-12 is going to be tough. Catering and e-ticketing have been our main source of income. With catering business worth Rs 300 crore gone, we are already feeling the pinch. Now, new portal will cut our share in ticketing too,” said Rakesh Tandon, IRCTC MD. FC had reported before the last year’s railway budget that the ministry was planning to develop an e-ticket website. “We have been trying to convince IRCTC to bring down the surcharges. However, it did not. So, we thought of creating competition,” Vivek Sahai, chairman of railway board said.
“We are trying to get into cricket and air ticketing. We have to explore other businesses. Tourism, which so far has been only 10-15 per cent of total business, needs to grow. We are tying up with state governments and travel companies to get bigger,” Tandon said.

Virender Shah, group general manager of west zone for the IRCTC said on Friday that the IRCTC has decided to expand its catering services in the Mumbai division as well as all across the West zone of the Railways.
“In the current financial year, we have already opened tenders for 29 food plazas and five fast food joints in the Western zone and the tender for 58 more food plazas on the stations will be opened after April. Of these 58, 16 are on the Central Railway and 15 on the Western,” said Shah.
On the Central Railway, the major stations where the food plaza will come up include Masjid, Byculla, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Wadala, Tilak Road, Panvel, Titwala, Ambernath, Karjat, etc. and on the Western line stations such as Charni Road, Grant Road, Goregaon, Mahalaxmi will get either a food plaza or a fast food units depending upon availability of land.
According to IRCTC official, the land on the stations, which is used for the provision of public amenities is leased out to the IRCTC, which is then given to the commercial companies. IRCTC has already done such experiment at Churchgate, Mumbai Central and Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
Ironically, the Railways had implemented policy in 2009 that did not renew IRCTC’s contract for mobile catering services, including base kitchens, pantry cars and all food stalls on stations, but had said that the food plazas will remain with the railway subsidiary. This policy had caused a loss of about Rs200 crore to IRCTC. To recover the loss, they have decided to expand their catering services.
The IRCTC has also planned to introduce non-railway catering services, by opening food plazas and mini-restaurants on the highways. “We are tying up with the oil companies like Hindustan Petroleum and Indian Oil, by which the food plazas will come on Mumbai-Nasik and Mumbai-Ahmedabad highways soon,” said Rahul Himalian, additional general manager of IRCTC.
