Camel Spiders Diet

Identification
Camel spiders are large in size, however, they are not as large as a dinner plate, like some Internet rumors suggest. Instead, the camel spider can reach a size of up to 6 inches, though not all of them get this large. Camel spiders are either light tan or gray colored and their bodies typically measure about 1 to 4 inches. This is not counting the length of their legs when they are outstretched. With outstretched legs, they can be a little larger.
Diets
They eat centipedes, insects, small lizards (on occasion), spiders and scorpions. They don't have any venom glands, therefore they can't inject venom into their victims and paralyze them like black widows and other venomous spiders can. Instead, camel spiders possess sharp teeth and strong jaws that allow them to bite onto, and then consume, their victims. Camel spiders do not eat the stomachs of camels.
Geography
Camel spiders are found in areas that consist of desert terrain. Some of the most common places to find camel spiders includes Southwest Asia and the Middle East. Humans need to be cautious because they will hide in places where they might be able to catch prey. These places include, but are not limited to: bedding, tents, shoes and clothing. In addition, it's not uncommon for them to run up trees and buildings in search of something to eat.
Misconceptions
Tales of people being bitten by camel spiders have also been told. While it's true that a camel spider can bite a human being, the bite is not fatal because the spider is non-venomous. If not properly treated, the bite can become infected. It has also been said that camel spiders can jump as high as 6 feet. This is also not true, because the camel spider possesses a very poor ability to jump.
Prevention/Solution
If you find that you are in an area in which camel spiders are known to live, take precautions to ensure that you don't get bitten by one of these creatures. Make sure that you shake your shoes or boots out before you put them on. Also, unroll or unfold blankets and shake them out before using them. Don't swat at a camel spider if it's on you; instead, brush it off. Don't walk barefoot; and never try to pick one up.
